About 50 million cases of dementia worldwide, 5-8% of elders aged 60 years and more have dementia. Adiponectin is an adipokine and presents in the humans’ brains and is linked to multiple functions in the central nervous system. Leptin is a cytokine that was thought to be associated with a decline in cognitive function. The present study aimed to assess adiponectin and leptin levels in elderly demented patients. <br />Materials and methods: the current study included 60 subjects of both genders aged 65 years and more; Group (I): 40 patients with dementia, and Group (II): 20 healthy control subjects. We excluded participants with chronic renal or hepatic diseases, diabetics, hypertensive, dyslipidemic patients, those with thyroid disorders, and those who were morbidly obese. MMSE and MOCA tests were done on all subjects, levels of adiponectin and leptin were assessed in participants’ sera using the ELISA test. <br />Results: Higher levels of adiponectin, but low levels of leptin were detected in patients with dementia. MMSE and MOCA scores were significantly correlated with serum adiponectin (negatively), and with serum leptin (positively). Materials and Methods: We analyzed the clinical presentations, laboratory and radiological investigations, and the patient’s outcome in fifty seniors aged 60 years and more who were hospitalized due to COVID-19 confirmed by RT-PCR essay of nasopharyngeal swabs in the period from December 2020 till March 2021. Results: The mean age was 68.2 ± 5.9 years (60% males and 40% females), 70% with comorbidities. Our patients exhibited a variety of clinical manifestations (constitutional, respiratory, gastrointestinal, and atypical) and hematological presentations with variable percentages. The mean period of hospital stay was15.05 days with 60% of the patients cured and 40% died (60% males, 40% females). The causes of death were septic shock (81.8%), ARDS (36.3%), AKI (18.2%), DIC (13.6), and encephalitis (9.1%). Using multivariant regression analysis and Roc curve analysis; levels of D-dimer >901ng/ml, interleukin-6 >13.5pg/ml, and >30% lung involvement were independent predictors of mortality after adjustment of other predictors. Conclusion: Elderly patients are susceptible to adverse outcomes of SARS Cov-2 infection. Unexpectedly, gastrointestinal manifestations were associated with mortality in seniors along with low oxygen saturation, and wheezy chest. C-reactive protein (CRP) and albumin are markers of inflammation, and high levels of them are associated with high SS. <br />Aim of the Work: To detect whether baseline CRP to albumin ratio (CAR), an easily available and novel inflammatory indicator, is associated with SS in patients with chronic coronary syndromes. <br />Methodology: This study was carried out on 100 patients having chronic coronary syndromes for whom, a diagnostic coronary angiography was done at Sohag University Cath. Lab unit in the period from January -July 2021. Patients were divided randomly into two equal groups:<br />*Group I, patients having low SS (≤22). <br />*Group II, patients having intermediate-high SS (>22).<br />Results: C-Reactive Protein/Albumin Ratio was significantly higher in patients having intermediate-high SS group (P < .0001). The idea of telemedicine and online clinic was necessary and a good solution for patients who cannot reach or afraid from contacting corona virus carriers at cardiology clinics or hospitals. This study was conducted to assess the value of telemedicine in cardiac patients care and ease managing their chronic illness during COVID-19. <br />Methodology: A cross sectional study during the course of one month of tele monitoring (from 5 July to 4 August), we received 2003 alerts (phone calls and messages). We used to communicate with patients on time or shortly within 24 hours according to their complaints.<br />Results: As regard onset of complaint, 14.4% were acute onset and 85.6% were gradual onset. Recommendation for admission for only 15.1% and 84.9% of patients advised to continue treatment at home with some changes in doses.<br />Conclusion:Telemedicine had a lot of economic and social benefits and it is a good solution especially in certain circumstances like the COVID-19 outbreak. It allows better follow-up, stimulation of self-management of the illness, improvement of quality of life, reduction of rehospitalization costs, and faster treatment in cardiac emergencies.https://niles.journals.ekb.eg/article_192881_1fc3b922d5203f47eaa947d13c9e87cc.pdf
